In Nepal, thousands of mothers die each year due to complications from miscarriages and childbirth. These tragedies are often caused by the lack of hospitals and health posts in rural areas, coupled with the inability of impoverished families to afford nutritious and healthy diets for expecting mothers.
To address this crisis, BTF Humla has been conducting annual Safe Motherhood Training programs since 2014. We have been focusing our efforts in Humla, one of Nepal’s most remote districts. This program aims to equip mothers in remote villages with the skills needed to ensure safe childbirth, even in the absence of health workers, nurses, and doctors.
During these training sessions, BTF Humla collaborates with skilled nurses and health workers from government hospitals to train local village women. Our primary objective is to encourage expectant mothers to seek delivery services at the nearest hospital, health post, or health center. For emergency situations, we provide education on how to handle childbirth safely for both the mother and the newborn.
By empowering local women with these essential skills, we aim to reduce the maternal and infant mortality rates in remote areas of Nepal, ensuring a safer future for mothers and their children.
